Checkout how how Zebra [1] deploys standard apps across their card and label printer product lines. This video [2] is originated from Google Next '19 event and details:
- Zebra Link-OS for printers
- MicroEJ VEE (Virtual Execution Environment) running on different hardware printers, running a Twitter application, a Google map GUI application, and a watch GUI application.
- Printer VEE has built-in Google Cloud Platform connectivity.
- All applications run on both a virtual player (simulator running on a PC) and on real hardware.
By building a small application platform to fit into scalable devices like printers and to re-use and scale apps across a broader fleet of devices, MicroEJ created an on-board service on Zebra Link-OS printers to allow full Java applications to run on the printer.
Speakers are: Robert DiLoreto, Fred Rivard, Vidya Adala and Victor Salmons.
